The National Transmission Company South Africa (NTCSA) has announced significant advancements in its efforts to enhance the country’s power grid. In a landmark move, NTCSA has signed long-term agreements with 19 local companies across various categories, including Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC), Procurement and Construction (PC), and Construction.
These agreements mark a crucial step in the country’s commitment to improving transmission grid capacity. The selected companies will compete for tenders over the coming years, with contracts expected to be valued at approximately R32 billion over eight years.
Segomoco Scheppers, Interim Chief Executive Officer of NTCSA, emphasized the importance of these partnerships in accelerating the development of South Africa’s transmission infrastructure. “This milestone not only demonstrates collaboration between the public and private sectors but is also expected to support economic growth by creating sustainable and skilled job opportunities,” Scheppers stated.
The contracting strategy is designed to streamline procurement processes, ensuring efficiency, governance, and reduced lead times while promoting localization in line with legislation. The scope of work for line construction has been divided into three specialized panels to optimize the infrastructure development process.
This strategic approach highlights NTCSA’s commitment to continuity and stability in the energy sector, fostering innovation and efficiency in the rollout of the Transmission Development Plan (TDP).
