Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are looking to fill positions within their South African operations, with more than 109 posts available between the three international tech giants.
These companies have long histories in South Africa, with the oldest being Microsoft, which opened its first office in Johannesburg in 1993.
Microsoft’s headquarters in Bryanston offers employees access to a gym, game rooms, and various other amenities.
The Washington-based tech giant currently has 11 roles listed in South Africa, including a cloud solutions architect for Azure infrastructure, a security sales specialist, and a senior compliance technology specialist.
Amazon has had a team in Cape Town since 2004, and the International online retail giant launched its customer service operations there several years later.
The team, led by South African Chris Pinkham, was responsible for developing Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Elastic Compute (EC2) component, which played a critical role in AWS’s establishment as the world’s biggest cloud platform.
In 2015, it expanded its South African presence further by opening an Amazon Web Services (AWS) office in Johannesburg.
While Amazon’s latest move in South Africa was launching a local marketplace in May 2024, to which many of its available roles relate, dozens of positions remain available in AWS and other related roles.
These include AWS operations, IT support, engineering, and software development roles.
On the marketplace end, Amazon is looking for candidates to fill roles such as senior partner marketing manager for Sub-Saharan Africa and senior marketing manager for its South African marketplace.
Lastly, Google has been in the country since 2007, when it opened its first office in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
It established the office under then-country manager Stafford Maisie, who Luke McKend succeeded in October 2020. McKend served in the position until October 2018.
Google’s first offices only supported a small number of staff, and in 2015, it expanded its South African office to a new location, also in Bryanston.
This provided space for a larger team and included new employee amenities, including a games room, canteen, and chill zone.
Google appointed Alistair Mokoena as its new South African country manager in January 2020. However, the company is currently looking for a candidate to replace Mokoena.
Google currently lists three available roles in the country, including the country director position, a partner marketing manager for Google Cloud, and an assistant product marketing manager.
The available positions at Amazon, Google, and Microsoft in South Africa are listed below with links to apply.
