Former Muvhango actor Lesley Musina, who’s busy juggling various projects.
MUSIC lovers are in for a treat on Saturday, 24 August, when business meets jazz as the Business Premium Jazz Festival returns to Carnival City’s Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni.
And one man who means business is former Muvhango actor Lesley Musina, who’ll be the MC of the evening.
This year’s event features a stellar line-up of Mzansi’s top musical talents, including Zonke Dikana, Mandisi Dyantyis, Amanda Black, and Mi Casa, who’re promising an unforgettable night of elegance and sophistication.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Lesley said people can expect fireworks.
“I’ve probably seen all the artists on the line-up perform, and I can promise you that they never disappoint. Although I’ve seen them perform a few times, they always bring something new and have a strong presence. If you’re like me and you love music, you can’t miss this one.”
Lesley’s well known for his role as Ndalamo on Muvhango and more recently as Leitlho on Queen Modjadji and Chief Magistrate Bonginkosi Khumalo on The Executives. But what many might not know’s that acting in royal roles isn’t foreign to him, as he’s of royal descent.
Asked more about his royal heritage, he said: “It’s more on my mum’s side in the VhaVenda kingdom. The current king’s basically our cousin. Even on my dad’s side, the royalty seems to have been lost somewhere, but we’re busy trying to trace our roots. We have a town named after us. That’s when we saw that something was amiss. Our land was taken. We’re now trying to locate our family members’ tombstones on different farms. Court cases may also follow shortly.”

Although Lesley values family, culture, and his craft, his biggest passion’s giving back to emerging artists.
The 44-year-old founder of the Lesley Musina Foundation told Daily Sun he was proud of the work he’s been able to do along with other organisations such as the Limpopo Home Cinema.
He said along with the home cinema, they’ve been helping aspiring actors, directors, filmmakers and producers gain knowledge of the industry.
“We went everywhere in Limpopo, looking for talent. I’m shooting with them now after having trained with them for more than a year. Seeing them come full circle as professionals has been fulfilling. The work they’ve done is of the best quality. Our hope is to present the pilots. The young people can now export skills, which they’ve gained without paying a cent.”
Asked what drives him to give back, he said it was how he was raised and the mentorship he got from his church.
“What people don’t know is that the secret to success is giving back. That’s it,” he said.
Lesley’s also busy shooting the second season of SABC1’s legal drama series, The Executives, which he said will be hitting the screens soon. The show’s centred on the powerful and successful Chief Magistrate Bonginkosi Khumalo, played by Lesley.
