Titans Table Tennis, a local club, will represent the city in the South African Regional and Open Championship for juniors, seniors and masters on Sunday.
The club were formed in February by table tennis players who decided to start a new venture to promote the sport, and create more opportunities for players to play both socially and competitively.
The chairperson of Titans Table Tennis, Prevan Totaram, said the team will be leaving for Johannesburg on Saturday, with the championships being held at the Brixton Multipurpose Centre.

“Our region, uMgungundlovu, will be sending 50 players to the championships, from the under-11 age category to the over-50 masters category. We are proud that 21 of our club players have been selected to represent the team.
“In total, we have 21 uMgungundlovu players [eight from Titans] participating in the upcoming national championships,” he said.
Totaram expressed his gratitude for the fantastic support they have received since the club started.
The club caters to anyone keen to try table tennis, from those who want to play socially to those aiming to compete at the highest levels
“Our membership has grown to 60 playing members, with most of them being new players. We have at least two junior coaches available per session to assist beginners,” said Totaram.
He added that they are working on promoting the sport by conducting demonstrations at schools. Some members have set up a second venue in Edendale to encourage others to learn about the game.
Totaram also congratulated Nitara Totaram, who recently represented South Africa at the All-Africa Junior Championships in Botswana. She was the only player from KZN to make the national team this year.
Totaram thanked Rashid Essa from Courtside Padel Venue, saying that without his generosity they would not have been able to achieve so many of their goals in such a short time.
